Black Lake - June 2016
This was our second week long family vacation to Black Lake, New York. We had a fantastic time relaxing, fishing, exploring, and taking boat rides. Jenn even found a local spa and treated herself to some much deserved pampering. Meals at the Fishbone Cafe and the new place Mack's were delicious, and of course there were the daily walks to Echos for snacks.
Of course fishing was the top priority for me and the kids. The weather was fantastic throughout the week and we found fish stacked up at the edge of weedbeds in about six to eight feet of water. A simple jig head tipped with a bit of worm produced more fish than we could count. Literally, we tried to count them and gave up.
On Thursday we launched The Little Lady on the St. Lawrence River and cruised out to visit Singer Castle. As luck would have it, the sign posted out front read, "Open Tomorrow." Oh well, it was a lovely day for a boat ride and the scenery in the Thousand Islands area is truly breathtaking. The kids even got to drive the boat!
Fish Fish, EverywhereBlack Lake is large and expansive and offers unlimted places to explore, but we didn't have to go more than 100 yards from the dock to load up on fish. The kids and I spent hours just dropping down jigs and pulling up fish. Even Addie joined in. She loved being out on the boat and hauled in fish all by herself.

A Day on the St. Lawrence River
Since getting to visit the castle didn't work out so well. The family sat back and enjoyed the beautiful weather and crystal clear water. Even though there is some fantastic fishing on the River, this was just a day to cruise. We even ventured into Canadian waters, which the kids found rather anti-climactic.

Exploring Lesser Known Waters
About 45 minutes from the cottage is a relatively small river that flows out of the Adirondacks. I took the older two kids, along with a canoe, and set off on an adventure. It was beautiful! The river meandered through forests and farm land and there wasn't another person in sight. We stopped to fish, swim, wade, and well ... let's just say I'm glad I brought a roll of TP. Eventually the river got a bit shallow for the canoe, but the kids throughly enjoyed splashing and hiking around for a long time before heading back downstream to the car. We will most definitly be back to this unknown gem.
