Black Lake & The St. Lawrence River - May 2015
This was a trip of firsts. It was the first time we fished from the pontoon boat. It was the first time we took Chad up to New York. And it was the first time we fished the pike opener on the mighty St. Lawrence River. One thing is for sure, it won't be the last time for ANY of those things.
We loved having Chad along and I think he had fun too. The pontoon boat was a blast, and the pike fishing even better. We found one particular bay with warm water that was literally fish after fish all afternoon. Well, at least for Campbell it was. He was in a pike groove and boated over ten toothy critters in less than 2 hours.
There weren't only pike in the River though. We hammered some really healthy and fat largemouth bass as well. I imagine we could have caught tons more, but they are techniquely out of season, so we moved on.
Not all of the fishing took place on the River. We also spent time on good ol' Black Lake. We caught some bass, a few pike, and some panfish, but the fishing was pretty slow. That's OK, there were chores to do around the cabin. And by chores, I mean taking naps while Campbell was productive. I guess he felt guilty for catching all the pike.
